چکیده

Communication in distributed applications across a wide area network needs to cope with heterogenous and constantly changing network conditions. A promising approach to address this is to augment the whole communication path with network awareness by using “bridging” components that are capable of caching, protocol conversion, transcoding, etc. While several such path-based approaches have been proposed, current approaches lack mechanisms for automatically creating effective network paths whose performance is optimized for encountered network conditions. This paper describes a solution for this problem. Our approach, which is built into an application-level programmable network infrastructure called CANS (Composable Adaptive Network Services), constructs network-aware communication paths that enhance application performance by taking into account both application performance preferences and dynamic resource availability. Our experiments with typical applications verify that communication paths automatically created with our path creation algorithms do bring applications with considerable performance advantages, and fine tuned, desirable adaptation behaviors, with only minimal input from applications.

Analysis of critical paths in a project network with random fuzzy activity times

Project planning is part of project management, which is relates to the use of schedules such as Gantt charts to plan and subsequently report progress within the project environment. Initially, the project scope is defined and the appropriate methods for completing the project are determined. In this paper a new approach for the critical path analyzing a project network with random fuzzy activi...

ACO-Based Neighborhoods for Fixed-charge Capacitated Multi-commodity Network Design Problem

The fixed-charge Capacitated Multi-commodity Network Design (CMND) is a well-known problem of both practical and theoretical significance. Network design models represent a wide variety of planning and operation management issues in transportation telecommunication, logistics, production and distribution. In this paper, Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) based neighborhoods are proposed for CMND pro...

Towards Fully Environment-Aware UAVs: Real-Time Path Planning with Online 3D Wind Field Prediction in Complex Terrain

Today, low-altitude fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are largely limited to primitively follow user-defined waypoints. To allow fully-autonomous remote missions in complex environments, real-time environment-aware navigation is required both with respect to terrain and wind, which can easily exceed the aircraft maximum airspeed or vertical speed in complex terrain. This paper presents...

Planning approaches to constraint-aware navigation in dynamic environments

Path planning is a fundamental problem in many areas, ranging from robotics and artificial intelligence to computer graphics and animation. Although there is extensive literature for computing optimal, collision-free paths, there is relatively little work that explores the satisfaction of spatial constraints between objects and agents at the global navigation layer. This paper presents a planni...

Planning in a cross dock network with an operational scheduling overview

Nowadays, cross docking plays an important role in the supply chain networks especially in transportation systems. According to the cross dock system advantages such as reducing transportation costs, lead times, and inventories, scheduling in a cross-dock center would be more complicated by increasing the number of suppliers, customers and product types. Considering the cross dock limited capac...
